The number that gets recommended

Notice that this is the more directly relevant finding anyway: intake is the thing that changes, whatever turns out to be driving it.
Why the honest version is still useful
You might reasonably ask what is left once the tidy hormone story is set aside. Quite a lot, actually.
Increased food intake after short sleep is the better-supported finding, and it does not require a specific mechanism to be worth acting on. Anyone who has been awake since five and found themselves standing in front of an open refrigerator at three in the afternoon has the practical version of this result already.

This section is short and it is the most important one in the article.
